First place in the Francophone component was won by Mtre. Marc James Tacheji (Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP), for his answer to the question : “À l’heure ou à l’acte?”
Mtre. Tacheji will have the pleasure of representing the Barreau de Montréal at the Prix Paris-Montréal, which will take place on September 7 during the Opening of the Courts ceremony and the Conférence Internationale des Barreaux de tradition juridique commine (CIB), scheduled to take place in Yaoundé, Cameroun, from December 7 to 10, 2016.
The YBM also wishes to highlight the excellent oratorical performance of the 2nd place finisher for the francophone component :Mtre. Julien Grenier (Lapointe Rosenstein Marchand Melançon, LLP).
In the English Oratory Competition, Mtre Jean-Philippe Bolduc (Ravinsky Ryan Lemoine, LLP) succeeding in impressing the jury with his compelling speech on the question : “Is law a merchandise?”
He will have the honour of representing the YBM at the 6th edition of the International debate championship, to be held in Montreal during the opening of the Courts ceremony. Mtre Bolduc will also represent the YBM at the American Bar Association, Young Lawyers Division’s (ABA-YLD) International Oratory Competition scheduled to take place in from May 4 to 6, 2017, during the 2017 Spring Conference.
The YBM also wishes to highlight the excellent performance of speaker Mtre Francesca Taddeo, (Borden Ladner Gervais), for her second place finish.

They say that good things come in threes! Having already won the Young Bar of Oratory Award in june, 2015, and the 30th International Conference of the Barreau de tradition juridique commune Moot Court Competition, held in Cotonou, Benin, in December 2015, Mtre Laurence Bich-Carrière went on to take first place on the occasion of the 1st edition of the Tony-Pemmers International Public Speaking Contest, organized as part of the Biennial Solemn Reception of the Ordre des avocats du Barreau de Luxembourg.
The final round of this public speaking debate was held on june 2, 2016 at the Superior Court of Law Pavillion at Luxembourg’s Judicial Precinct, in front of a 5-member jury made up of European and Luxembourgian judges and lawyers. Meanwhile, the following day’s final was held to public vote where Mtre Bich-Carrière wasable to persuade and charm an audience of 250 jurists, thereby earning her first place finish.
The contest focused on oratorical abilities, the soundness of arguments, and the firmness of convictions, but also on charisma, irony, and the ability to make a connection with the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
A member of both the Barreau du Québec and The Barreau du Haut-Canada, Mtre Bich-Carrière is now part of Lavery’s litigation team. She has worked as law clerk at the Supreme Court of Canada, and has been the recipent of numerous scholarships for excellence during the course of her studies. Her practice covers every aspect of civil and commercial litigation.
