The Défends-toit Firm: Recipient of the JBM 2024 Startup Law Firm Grant

The Young Bar of Montreal (YBM) is pleased to announce the recipients of the 11th Startup Law Firm Grant, revealed on November 20th at the 18th "Leaders of Tomorrow" Gala. This distinction was awarded to the law firm Défends-toit, founded by Kimmyanne Brown and Ré Poulin Ladouceur, who stood out due to the excellence of their application. These partners will receive a grant worth nearly $25,000, including money, products, and services.

Driven by their passion and determination, Ms. Brown and Mr. Poulin Ladouceur launched a law firm specializing in housing law, with a strong commitment to access to justice and active involvement in their community. Their professionalism, the clarity of their business vision, and their inclusive values convinced the Selection Committee. The committee, composed of Ms. Marie Flambard, President of the YBM, Mr. Extra Junior Laguerre, former President of the Montreal Bar and former President of the YBM, and lawyer at Laguerre Fiscaliste, Ms. Arielle Forget Laperrière, Director and CPA Auditor at Mazars; and Mr. Olivier Khoury, Account Director at Desjardins, praised their commitment to protecting tenants' rights, especially in the context of the housing shortage in Quebec.
A Program to Support Legal Talent
The YBM’s Startup Law Firm Grant Program aims to encourage entrepreneurship among young lawyers and promote the next generation in the legal field. This program supports the creation of innovative law firms while fostering job creation and financial independence for legal professionals. It also encourages the continued practice of young lawyers in the Montreal judicial district.
