JBM Announces Recipients of Firm Start-Up Grants: Garand, Wood - Family Law Firm

The Jeune Barreau de Montréal (JBM) was delighted to announce the recipients of the Firm Start-Up Grant on November 17, at the JBM "Leaders of Tomorrow" Gala. The Garand, Wood law firm of Jessica Provencher Garand and Jillian Wood stood out thanks to the excellence of its case, and was awarded over $30,000 in cash, products and services.

Jessica Provencher Garand and Jillian Wood have combined their passion and determination to launch their firm, which focuses on family law. Garand, Wood is also a firm that is involved in its community and advocates greater access to justice. It was the professionalism of their plan, the business vision and the firm's values that won over the members of the Selection Committee, made up of Me Maryse Bélanger, Director of the Clinique juridique du Barreau du Québec; Ms Valérie Nové, CPA auditor, Mazars; Me Extra Junior Laguerre, self-employed lawyer, Laguerre Fiscaliste; Mr. Olivier Khoury, Account Manager, Desjardins; Me Joey Suri, Vice-President of the Young Bar Association of Montreal.
Speaking at the unveiling, Ms. Provencher-Garand said: "It's a tremendous honour to have been awarded the Start-Up Grant. Thanks to this award, Garand, Wood will be able to more quickly achieve the main objective of our mission: to make justice more accessible to a large number of people, while offering the highest quality of service, in a human and personalized way. In addition to the cash prizes and the invaluable collaboration of all our business partners, we feel especially privileged to have been recognized by our peers. "
The JBM Firm Start-Up Grant Program is designed to promote entrepreneurship among young lawyers and support the next generation of legal professionals. It aims to encourage creativity and best practices in law, as well as job creation and financial autonomy for young lawyers, by helping them realize their plans to start a firm offering legal advisory services. It is also intended to encourage lawyers to stay in practice by helping them carry out firm start-up projects in the judicial district of Montreal.
