OnApril 30, the JBM, in collaboration with the Montreal Bar, organized a debate between the two candidates for the Bâtonnat du Barreau du Québec.

On April 30, the Jeune Barreau de Montréal (JBM) invited the legal community to a debate at the Bâtonnat du Québec with Me Antoine Aylwin and Me Catherine Claveau. The debate was moderated by Djavan Habel-Thurton, Radio-Canada's Sept-Îles-based journalist.

After presenting their respective programs, the candidates debated the following themes:

  • Technology and the environment (21:05)
  • Psychological well-being of lawyers (24:35)
  • Sexual harassment and violence in the profession (28:00)
  • Racism, diversity and inclusion in the legal community (32:00)
  • Supporting the next generation of lawyers (including remuneration of articling students) (36:00)
  • Access to justice (43:00)
  • Future of the profession and the Quebec Bar (46:55)

The two candidates then responded in 30 seconds to three rapid-fire questions concerning the annual costs paid by members of the Quebec Bar, the measures to be undertaken for a greener profession, and the actions they intend to implement for lawyers in private practice accepting legal aid mandates (50:50). There were also questions from the audience (55:00).

Finally,Me Aylwin andMe Claveau had one last chance to charm members with their closing remarks (1:08:15).
