Return to the 41st Telephone Legal Clinic of the JBM
Volunteers more mobilized than ever and nearly 1,000 citizens served!
Lawyers and notaries once again came together in large numbers on October 21 and 22 for the 41st edition of the Jeune Barreau de Montréal's (JBM) Telephone Legal Clinic. Thanks to their dedication, nearly 1,000 Quebec citizens were able to receive free legal advice on their rights, obligations, and legal recourse. The JBM extends its heartfelt thanks to the CAIJ and the Barreau du Québec for their unwavering support in organizing this event. The JBM also wishes to highlight the support of the volunteers from the Jeune Barreau de Québec and the Jeune Barreau de Laval.
Among the legal fields most sought after during the clinic were the following:
- Family (16%)
- Estate (14%)
- General Civil Law (11%)
- Criminal and Penal (8%)
- Housing (8%)
- Extracontractual Civil Liability (6%)
The Telephone Legal Clinic is one of the JBM's flagship events in terms of access to justice, and it could not take place without the active participation of its volunteers. The JBM would like to thank all the lawyers and notaries who took the time to assist the public over the weekend. Special thanks also go to the Pro Bono Legal Services Committee, chaired by Me Maria-Christina Sorbo-Mayrand, for their support in organizing this essential event for access to justice.
Words from Me Joey Suri, President of the JBM:
"Words will never be enough to express my gratitude to all the volunteers of the JBM's Telephone Legal Clinic. Their commitment to providing free legal advice to the public has undoubtedly helped many people and reflects the very essence of our mission, which is to improve access to justice. This is why we thank them for making a difference and making justice shine."
Words from Me Élizabeth Ménard-Laberge, Executive Director of the JBM:
"For this 41st edition, we were able to count on the participation and support of over 80 volunteers, including those from the Jeune Barreau de Québec and the Association du Jeune Barreau de Laval. We would like to thank them for generously giving their time this past weekend. It is thanks to their involvement that we are able to offer this valuable service to the public and help citizens find answers to their legal questions."
We warmly thank our partners, the CAIJ and the Barreau du Québec, as well as our collaborators, the Jeune Barreau de Québec and the Association du Jeune Barreau de Laval, for supporting this initiative.
