The Young Bar of Montreal Launches its 43rd Telephone Legal Clinic
Free legal advice for all on October 19th and 20th !
Montreal, October 8, 2024 – The Young Bar of Montreal (YBM) is proud to announce the 43rd edition of its Telephone Legal Clinic, which will take place on October 19th and 20th. During this weekend, lawyers and notaries will volunteer their time to offer free legal advice by phone to the population of Quebec, aiming to promote access to justice for everyone.
This initiative is part of a series of services launched by the YBM to meet the growing legal needs of the population, in partnership with the Quebec Bar, the Legal Information Access Centre (CAIJ), as well as the Young Bar of Quebec, the Young Bar of Laval, and the Canadian Association of Paralegals.
Free Legal Advice for Every Situation
Whether it's issues related to housing, employment, family, immigration, or other areas of law, the Telephone Legal Clinic allows citizens to have direct and free access to legal professionals. These volunteer lawyers will answer legal concerns with care and expertise, providing clear answers and tailored guidance for each situation.
A Service Accessible to Everyone
Simple and accessible, the Telephone Legal Clinic is a valuable resource for those who seek to better understand their rights or find solutions to their disputes. In the previous edition, nearly 1,200 calls were received, demonstrating the impact of this initiative.
To benefit from this free service, all one needs to do is call a dedicated phone number on October 19th and 20th, 2024, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Lawyers and notaries will be available to answer all legal questions, helping Quebec's population get informed and better navigate sometimes complex situations.

About JBM
Founded in 1898, the JBM brings together lawyers practicing in Montreal for ten years or less, with over 6,000 members. This makes it one of the largest associations of young lawyers in the world, in terms of numbers for a single city. Its mission is twofold. On the one hand, it defends and promotes the interests of its members. On the other, it provides pro bono legal advice and information to various segments of the population, and organizes charitable activities. Overall, it aims to improve access to justice and contribute to the collective well-being. As such, in August 2021, the JBM was awarded the Lieutenant-Governor's Medal for Exceptional Merit, "in recognition of the remarkable dynamism demonstrated by its members in the ongoing pursuit of collective well-being".
